"The Titanic may have captured all the headlines, but the grand dame of oceanliners was the RMS Queen Mary. The 81,237-ton liner was launched in 1934 and made 1001 crossing of the Atlantic before being retired in 1964 and moored in Long Beach three years later. The lavish vessel was favored by Fred Astaire, GretaGarbo, Bob Hope, and Marlene Dietrich. The Duke and Dutchess of Windsor hold the record for most steamer trunks (72), and Winston Churchill signed the D-Day invasion papers in the 1st-class ladies' drawing room."
There is lots of history aboard the ship as it was not only used as a luxury cruise liner, but it also carried troups in WWII! We enjoyed exploring the ship and we went out for a nice dinner in downtown Long Beach to celebrate.
